The festival may be over, but your journey towards a more fulfilling career doesn’t stop here.

Keep the Momentum Going Beyond SkillsFuture Festival

That’s a wrap for SkillsFuture Festival (SFF) 2026! Over six weeks, we met and heard from many of you. While each story was unique, there was a common thread running through many of our conversations: curiosity about “what’s next?”, “what else is out there for me?” and, perhaps a little self-doubt, “can I do it?”

In fact, more than half of you who spoke with our Careers & Skills Advisors came looking for career direction. If you’ve found yourself asking similar questions, you’re certainly not alone. And you don’t need to have all the answers before taking your next step.

Here are three things we learnt from speaking with SFF visitors, along with some practical ways you can continue your learning and career journey.

1. Know Yourself

If you’re questioning whether you’re in the right career or wondering what else is out there.

Before jumping into job listings or browsing courses, take a moment to consider what you already know and can do. The skills you’ve picked up in your current role could open doors to opportunities you might not have considered.

“I didn’t realise that what I know is actually highly transferable to several other roles.”

That’s what one SFF participant told us after our interactive Know Your Skills station got him thinking differently about his career possibilities.

As a lecturer, he had always assumed that his specialised role left him with few options beyond his current profession. Discovering that his existing skills could be relevant to other roles, and having this affirmed by employers he spoke to, opened his eyes to possibilities he hadn’t previously considered.

What you can do

If you’re unsure what you bring to the table or where you want to go next, give yourself room to explore.

You can do this at Connect by SWDA, an AI-enhanced career and skills guidance centre, where you can try hands-on interactive stations like those featured at our SFF roadshows, including Discover Yourself, which helps you uncover your career interests and learning style, and Know Your Skills.

You’ll also receive Your Next Steps, a personalised summary with relevant insights and recommendations that give you greater clarity on what to do next.

If you prefer to talk things through, Careers & Skills Advisors are also available at the centre to help you map your transferable skills to potential roles, explore career options, and work through any questions you might have.

2. Build Your AI Confidence

If you’re worried about falling behind as AI changes the way we work.

“I was scared that AI would replace my job.”

One SFF participant shared this concern with us. And in this age of AI, chances are, it’s something that has crossed your mind too. With AI changing how we work, it’s natural to wonder what this means for your job.

Rather than letting that worry hold him back, he came to the event with a plan. “I wanted to find out ways that I can improve myself, incorporate AI into my work,” he shared.

You don’t need to master every new AI tool or understand all the latest developments. Sometimes, it’s about finding small, practical ways to use AI in tasks you’re already familiar with, and seeing where it can help you work better.

What you can do

Start with a task you do regularly and see whether an AI tool could help you approach it differently. During SFF 2026, some of our most popular workshops explored how AI could be applied in everyday work.

After attending our Copilot in Excel: Working Smarter with Financial Data workshop, one participant shared, “It opens up possibilities that we can improve our workflows.”

That’s the value of learning by doing. Rather than simply reading about what AI can do, you get to try the tools for yourself, see how they work in practice and discover where they could make a difference to your everyday tasks.

Free workshops like these offer a low-pressure way to explore new tools and pick up practical skills.

If you prefer more structured, longer-term training, you can also explore the hundreds of AI courses available on MySkillsFuture. Look out for courses with the ‘Free AI Subscription’ label, which come with six months of free access to premium AI tools, so you can continue practising and experimenting beyond the classroom.

3. Get Clarity on Your Next Move

If you know it’s time to do something about your career but you’re not quite sure what or how.

At an SFF event, one visitor shared that she was open to a career pivot but was looking for more direction. However, she was hesitant to speak to a Careers & Skills Advisor as she wasn’t sure what she wanted to pursue just yet.

It’s easy to feel like you need a clear career goal before seeking advice. But what if figuring out that goal is exactly what you need help with?

What you can do

Consider booking a session with a Careers & Skills Advisor (CSA). You don’t need to know exactly which role or industry you want to move into. Whether you have a few ideas, a list of questions, or simply a feeling that you’re ready for something different, our advisors can help you explore your options and work out possible next steps.

They can support you with:

  • Career exploration and planning
  • Skills and training recommendations
  • Job search strategies and resources
  • Resume and interview guidance

Sometimes, a conversation can help you see possibilities you hadn’t considered and give you a clearer idea of where to go from here.

Your Next Chapter Begins With A Single Step

Finding your way in your career isn’t always straightforward. There will be questions, uncertainties and perhaps a few unexpected turns along the way. But you don’t have to figure everything out at once.

Start by understanding what you’re good at, build your confidence with skills that can help you keep up with a changing workplace, and don’t be afraid to seek guidance when you need it. Every step, no matter how small, can help you move towards new possibilities.
